How to Pray Against Witchcraft With Biblical Authority

Witchcraft is not a game, a personality trait, or harmless curiosity dressed in spiritual language. It is rebellion against God’s authority. If you are asking how to pray against witchcraft, begin here: do not pray from panic. Pray from your position in Jesus Christ. The cross is not fragile, and the name of Jesus is not intimidated by darkness.
Having once been involved in witchcraft, I know deception often arrives quietly. It can sound like empowerment, healing, manifestation, protection, or secret wisdom. But whatever name it carries, spiritual power sought apart from God leads people into bondage. Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, to forgive sin, and to set captives free.
How to Pray Against Witchcraft Without Fear
Prayer against witchcraft is not about becoming preoccupied with demons or trying to outmaneuver darkness. It is about turning fully to God, submitting to His Word, and resisting what opposes Him. James 4:7 gives the order clearly: submit yourselves to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Submission comes first. A believer cannot effectively resist what they are privately entertaining. Before confronting spiritual opposition, ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. Renounce any involvement with occult practices, divination, tarot cards, spell work, psychic readings, crystals used for spiritual power, New Age rituals, or objects connected to false worship. Repentance is not a ritual. It is a sincere turning away from sin and a turning toward Jesus.
This matters whether the involvement was yours, something you inherited in your home, or an influence you encountered through another person. You are not required to know every detail of the past before you can come to Christ. You do not need a dramatic formula. You need the Savior.
Start by declaring who God is and what Christ has done. Ephesians 6 does not tell believers to invent spiritual weapons. It tells us to put on what God has already provided: truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. Prayer is where these truths become personal and active.
Begin With Repentance and Renunciation
If you have participated in witchcraft or opened doors through occult involvement, be honest with God. Do not soften what He calls sin, and do not let shame convince you that His mercy is out of reach. The blood of Jesus is greater than your past.
You can pray:
“Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ. I confess and repent for every way I have sought spiritual power, guidance, protection, knowledge, or healing apart from You. I renounce witchcraft, divination, sorcery, spells, curses, psychic practices, and every agreement I have made with darkness knowingly or unknowingly. I reject Satan and his works. I belong to Jesus Christ alone. Forgive me, cleanse me, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Establish me in Your truth and lead me in freedom. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Say only what is true. Do not feel pressured to name things you do not understand or remember. God sees clearly. If specific practices, vows, objects, relationships, or patterns come to mind, bring them before Him honestly.
Repentance should be followed by action. Remove occult materials from your home rather than keeping them as reminders, decorations, or collectibles. In Acts 19, people who had practiced magic publicly burned their scrolls after believing the gospel. Their response showed that surrender to Christ had practical consequences. If an object has been used for occult practice or holds spiritual significance outside of Christ, do not preserve it out of sentimentality or fear.
Pray for God’s Protection and Truth
Some people pray against witchcraft because they believe someone is targeting them. This can be a painful and frightening situation. Yet Scripture does not call us to retaliate, curse a suspected person, obsess over signs, or make accusations based on fear. Our battle is not against flesh and blood. The person caught in deception is not your enemy to destroy. They are a person Christ can redeem.
Ask God for discernment. Not every hardship is a curse, and not every troubling thought is proof that someone is practicing witchcraft against you. Illness, conflict, anxiety, grief, and financial strain can have many causes. Seek wise pastoral and practical support where needed. Prayer is not a substitute for medical care, counseling, safety planning, or reporting abuse.
At the same time, believers should not deny spiritual warfare. Pray with sober confidence:
“Lord Jesus, I submit myself, my home, my family, and every part of my life to You. Cover us with Your peace and guard our minds in Christ Jesus. I reject every work of darkness, every lie, every accusation, and every attempt to bring fear, confusion, division, or oppression. Let every scheme formed against us fail according to Your will. Give me discernment, courage, and obedience. Teach me to stand in the truth of Your Word. In the name of Jesus, amen.”
This is not a demand for control over every circumstance. It is a declaration of trust in the Lord who sees what you cannot see. God is your refuge, not your spiritual technique.
Use Scripture as the Foundation of Your Prayer
When fear rises, do not build your prayer on rumors, feelings, or frightening stories. Build it on Scripture. Jesus answered temptation with the Word of God. Believers should do the same.
Pray through Psalm 91 when you need to remember God’s shelter and faithfulness. Read Psalm 27 when fear tries to take root. Speak Ephesians 6:10-18 as a daily reminder to stand in God’s strength, not your own. Let Colossians 1:13 remind you that God has delivered His people from the domain of darkness and transferred them into the kingdom of His beloved Son.
The Word of God is not a charm to repeat mechanically. Read it, believe it, obey it, and let it correct your thinking. There is a difference between speaking Scripture in faith and treating Bible verses like incantations. Biblical prayer is relationship with God, not an attempt to manipulate spiritual outcomes.
Resist Isolation and Seek Mature Help
Darkness thrives on secrecy, fear, and isolation. If you are dealing with a history of occult involvement, recurring oppression, or serious concern for someone you love, do not carry it alone. Speak with a biblically grounded pastor or mature Christian leader who understands repentance, discipleship, and the authority of Christ.
Be discerning about whom you trust. Not every ministry that uses the language of deliverance is healthy. Avoid leaders who pressure you to reveal graphic details publicly, demand money for freedom, make sensational claims, or keep you dependent on repeated sessions. Genuine ministry points people to Jesus, Scripture, repentance, healing, accountability, and growing maturity.
Freedom is often both decisive and ongoing. A person can genuinely renounce the occult in a moment, yet still need time to renew their mind, repair relationships, learn Scripture, and replace old habits. Fill the space once occupied by darkness with prayer, fellowship, worship, service, and the Word of God. Do not merely leave the old life behind. Build a new life with Christ at the center.
Pray for Those Involved in Witchcraft
There is no room for pride in spiritual warfare. I have seen the deception from the inside, and I have also seen the mercy of God reach into places people assume are beyond redemption. Pray against the works of witchcraft, but pray for the people held by it.
Ask God to expose lies, break spiritual bondage, and bring conviction that leads to repentance. Pray that believers will speak truth with courage rather than compromise with occult practices to seem accepting. Most of all, pray that those in darkness will encounter the living Jesus.
You can pray: “Father, open their eyes to the truth. Break every deception that keeps them from seeing Christ. Draw them by Your mercy, send faithful witnesses into their lives, and give them courage to repent and receive Your forgiveness. Let the light of the gospel overcome every counterfeit promise of power. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Your confidence is not in having the perfect words. It is in the risen Christ. Keep your eyes on Him, keep your life surrendered to Him, and keep praying. The One who calls people out of darkness is still mighty to save.
